U.S.A. During the week of September 27-October 3, 2009, influenza activity continued to increase in the United States. Flu activity is now widespread in 37 states. Nationwide, visits to doctors for influenza-like-illness increased over last week and are higher than expected for this time of year. In addition, flu-related hospitalizations and deaths are increasing as well, and are higher than expected.
Comment The increasing influenza activity in the U.S.A. is a sign of the wave of pandemic flu, expected to spread to most countries on the northern hemisphere during the coming winter season.
The first supplies of H1N1 vaccine is being delivered during the end of October, and people belonging to risk groups should be immunized. The vaccine is delivered and distributed through government channels and are not at present available on the market.
