An encephalitis outbreak has killed 130 people in northern India since January 2009. The encephalitis outbreak is concentrated in eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. The outbreak continues to grow, and Uttar Pradesh is endemic for Japanese encephalitis virus.
Comment Most of the reported cases have not been confirmed to be japanese encephalitis. Never the less, travellers visiting rural areas of Uttar Pradesh for prolonged time (more than four weeks) should consider immunization against japanese encephalitis.
